Trenchless Sewer Line Repair and Replacement Technology – How Does It Work?
Traditional sewer line repair requires excavating your yard, driveway, patio or other structures to remove damaged sewer lines in order to replace them with new ones. The Trenchless sewer line repair technology bypasses this process via two methods:
1) Pipe Lining. This involves threading a new pipe through the old sewer line. This is referred to as “relining.” The old sewer line is lined with a a new pipe. The pipe lining is flexible and water tight, allowing for water to move freely through the damaged pipes.
2) Pipe Bursting. Many times Pipe Lining is not the answer. Pipe Bursting is a trenchless sewer repair technology where an entirely new pipe is pushed through the old sewer line pipe. As it is pushed through it replaces the old sewer line. The old pipes break and shatter as the new, stronger pipe replaces it.
How Long Does Trenchless Sewer Repair Take?
Proper trenchless sewer line repair involves three processes, each taking about a day – sewer line locating, access point excavation, and pipe bursting. Normally it is a 3 day process.
Both pipe bursting and pipe lining may require small amounts of digging to make the initial entry into the pipe, however, this is very minimal compared to a traditional sewer excavation project. Some homes offer an easy access point to the sewer line and this requries little or not digging. In both cases, there is significantly less damage done to your yard, driveway, patio, or landscaping by using the trenchless method.
Proper Training and Equipment Required
The trenchless sewer line repair method takes years of training and requires specialized equipment, so please leave a trenchless sewer repair to trained sewer professionals. Serious damage can be caused with an improperly laid pipe, and performing a major excavation job will be the only way to fix it. Several years of training are needed to become a master at trenchless sewer repair.
